It’s important to understand the typical “Advanced” scuba course is more of an enhanced entry-level certification than it is a course that creates truly advanced divers. Nevertheless, these courses serve a very important purpose and are ones every diver should take as soon after initial certification as possible. They typically:
- More than double the number of dives students make during their Open Water Diver course. This leads to substantially greater comfort and confident in the water.
- Increase the recommended depth limit for dives you plan and make with a buddy from 18 m/60 ft to 30 m/100 ft.
- Introduce students to at least five different specialized diving activities — and you get to choose most of these.
- Help students meet important prerequisites for even more advanced training.
The course consists of self-study through eLearning, followed by two days and five dives. There are no confined water sessions. It’s all getting in open water and having fun.
